
BIO
Rachel J. Pilgrim is an award-winning multimedia investigative journalist from Mount Vernon, New York. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Cornell University with degrees in English, Business, and Inequality Studies before attending Columbia Journalism School for an M.S. in Journalism. She’s done work in radio and podcasting, video, and digital platforms covering stories in race, culture, social justice issues, and crime. Her work has been published in The New York Times, Huffington Post, and The Root. She is also a coauthor and copy editor for the book, Moving Still.
In the audio space, Rachel has worked as a story editor, producer and scriptwriter for several notable Audible Originals podcasts, The Unbothered Network‘s (Spotify) beloved podcast, Sanctified, hosted by Deborah Joy Winans and Lyvonne Briggs. She was the scriptwriter for Season Four of the award-winning podcast The Plot Thickens from Turner Classic Movies, centered on the legendary and iconic Pam Grier. That season won a Signal Award in 2022 and was nominated for the 2023 Webby Awards. She was also a scriptwriter for YouTube’s newest show Like & Describe, which received over 250,000 listeners on launch day. Most recently, Rachel was a Narrative Producer at Lemonada Media for their show Blind Plea, which went #1 on Apple Podcasts during launch week.
In her spare time, Rachel runs her herbalism business, The Land of Milk & Honey Apothecary™, and media company, Heal and Hear the Community™, which you can read more about here.
While at Columbia J-School, Rachel received honors for her Master’s Project, Seek and You Will Find: The Search For The Five Women of Grace Baptist Church. She created a website, which features an excerpt, interactive data, and some of the archives from the 4 months-long investigation into the founding of Westchester County, New York’s largest church in 1888.
